On gaps

You are probably aware that marketmakers create gaps in stocks like Intel virtually everyday at the opening. Often times the stock has opened a point or more higher. I often use this as a gauge of retail sentiment, since many of these orders are bunched up on the opening. Lately of course this mark up hasn't been there. The mark down has been up to now much smaller.

The stock then spends time backtracking to fill that opening gap. People looking at the chart longer than minute by minute may be finding gaps that do not exist except on charts that cover longer periods. I think anyone that looks for alleged gaps to be filled has to do that analysis with some volume component.
