Excess carbon is just a side effect of excess human population. Anything short of quickly reducing the human population by 99.9 percent is going to be a feel good exercise that will actually encourage further rapid population growth.

Unfortunately, humans will be among the species least impacted by climate change. We have the ability to adapt. Even if we lose a billion people it hardly makes a dent in our numbers. Most other species won't be so lucky.
