Jews were normally persecuted under Arab rulers. When the French colonized north Africa, they were liberators from the standpoint of the indigenous Jews ... why so many chose French citizenship when they had the chance. Huh?! Do you mean after the partition of the ME? After the creation of Israel in the name of the Jews all bets were off. However, the thread was under Islamic rule, Jews were protected and have prospered. Oh yes Sephardi Jews, the same Jews that were kicked out of Spain and the Muslims protected them in North Africa. The question should be, why did they move to Israel? The majority of these Jews will never even visit Israel.
