Hitler was not elected to anything. Despite being very sick, Hindenburg was convinced to run for president again. When two elections failed to form a government, Through some backroom wheeling and dealing, the 1% convinced Hindenburg to appoint Hitler to a chancellorship. They thought he could be controlled.

Through legal maneuvering and intimidation, Hitler gained more and more power. He had the Reichstag dissolved and replaced it with one more amenable to his needs. The day before Hindenburg died, the Reichstag passed a law that would dissolve the presidency upon Hindenburg's death and place all of his powers in the chancellorship.

Hitler wasn't elected to anything, he was appointed. After 1933, Germany was a democracy in name only.
