Personally, I see only two real possibilities.

The courts could roll back major infractions on the basis they were illegally undertaken -- a number of the Obamacare items at once would be pretty big, but there is plenty to work with. I just don't know if they'll do it or how they'd go about it.

The other possibility I can think of is if the next president recognized the threat and were willing to unilaterally cut his power back to pre-Obama levels. Very difficult to envision; if we elect a Republican is he seriously going to say, "I want less power than I have"? I doubt it. He's going to continue escalating presidential prerogative and it is going to continue until Congress is merely an advisory role. At which point there is not even a reason to vote.

I'm not suggesting Obama is going to try to overstay his eight years; but if a president can just ignore the Constitution in other areas a time will surely come when some future president could manage to eliminate the two term limitation. Not ignore it, but get rid of it. If the public were happy they might go along with it.

This is a very dangerous trajectory we're on if the courts don't act, imo.

I do not believe it is "silly" to suggest that we're headed toward dictatorship. We are economically weakened and there is nothing remotely on the horizon that would improve this picture.

All speculation, I know.
