It'll likely be a repeat of the 1970's.

No way. Unless we highly incentivize employment via business tax cuts there will be too much slack in the job market preventing any upward wage pressure. Without that any inflationary trend will be stifled near the outset. Jobs are just too easy to offshore these days so we're all stuck. I think we'll be stuck in this zero interest rate environment for years. Once the Fed goes above zero the reaction will be swift and the economy will tank and back comes QE. If I'm wrong at least the Fed knows how to kill inflation with high rates.

Can you blame them? After going nuts with the lending, they gotta slam on the brakes.

Actually, I can. The taxpayers bailed them out. Instead of listening to Obama and helping out those taxpayers by not freezing credit so badly, they rushed to open the Casino and started gambling again. Because that is how they get the big bonuses.

The Bellyflop got as bad as it did and the recovery was as slow as it was because their bonuses were more important than helping the country recover from the mess they made.

There is a reason why you don't allow sociopaths to control a major segment of your economy.

Which is why they will do it again.
