The thesis of my argument is this. We could bomb them to smithereens, but do what we can to avoid women, children and old people. We must seek civilized behavior at every turn. There was simply no justification to kill them wantonly. Curtis Le May was a cold blooded killer whom FDR should have fired. Truman should have fired and JFK should have fired. Except for the atomic bomb race with Germany, we were never in any danger of being defeated. Like the South in the civil war, Germany and Japan never had a chance. People like revenge, especially right wingers. Why they like the death penalty. I only mention it, because we never seem to own up to our dark side.
