Hi, I'm a native Japanese speaker and sorry for my poor English, but I try my best to answer your question, supposing that you're asking about just the word, "Haji."

In Japanese, "haji" has several meanings;

1. ?: shame, embarrassment, disgrace
eg. ”????!” "Haji wo shire!"= "Shame on you!", "For shame!"
cf. In different ways, you can also say "haji"as, "??(kutsujyoku), ???(fumeiyo) etc.
eg. "?????????(hitomae de kutsujyoku wo ukeru)" = be humiliated in front of others.

There are two other meanings for the word but I think Eric means the first one shown above.

In Arabic, the word Haji is a term of honor for a Muslim who has made the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Many spellings exist - haiji, haji, hadji - none are perfect.
