In a region reeling with ethnic strife and religious bloodshed, Zionism has engendered a multiethnic, multiracial and religiously diverse society. Arabs serve in the Israel Defense Forces, in the Knesset and on the Supreme Court. While Christian communities of the Middle East are steadily eradicated, Israel's continues to grow. Israeli Arab Christians are, in fact, on average better educated and more affluent than Israeli Jews. In view of these monumental achievements, one might think that Zionism would be admired rather than deplored. But Zionism stands accused of thwarting the national aspirations of Palestine's indigenous inhabitants, of oppressing and dispossessing them. Never mind that the Jews were natives of the land—its Arabic place names reveal Hebrew palimpsests—millennia before the Palestinians or the rise of Palestinian nationalism. Never mind that in 1937, 1947, 2000 and 2008, the Palestinians received offers to divide the land and rejected them, usually with violence. And never mind that the majority of Zionism's adherents today still stand ready to share their patrimony in return for recognition of Jewish statehood and peace.

Why in God's name do you think the Israelis are any better. The IDF starts training their recruits in high school. And here's some of the results.............these are the teens of Israel tweeting for the death of all Arabs: Duckfaces and Death to Arabs: Israeli Teens Call for Ethnic Cleansing On July 10th, David Sheen, a staff writer at Muftah.org, entered the search term "Aravim" (or Arab, in Hebrew) on Twitter. What he found was disturbing: Teenagers, making duck faces, posing for scantily-clad selfies and calling for the deaths (often painful) of Arabs everywhere. While we often hear about death tolls and bombings in the news, it's not as often that we are given a glimpse of how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is affecting the younger generations, those that are on social media and are about to enter the Israeli army. As a Jew, and as someone who has been raised to always support Israel (which, according to my parents, is my spiritual home, although I have never been), it's hard to look at these tweets (and their accompanying pictures and Twitter avatars) and not feel a mixture of sadness, shame, disgust, and also sympathy.
