BC, it doesn't matter. You had qualified opinions both for and against using the bomb.

No one was arguing that the bomb was necessary from the standpoint of military strategy. Otherwise they would actually have been used on military targets.

The bomb was used to bring the war to a quick end. Truman made the decision and said himself that he never lost a night's sleep over it.

Whether hundreds of thousands of lives were saved or not is anyone's guess. But to pretend that Japan was ready to surrender, after all of the atrocities they have committed in the decades prior, is to rewrite history from the perspective of a pollyanna.
