Two Very Different Views of America
3 Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: "By 63% to 35%, Republicans believe that the United States is a country where anyone can succeed, regardless of background. Democrats, by a 69% to 29% margin, disagree saying the widening income gap undermines that idea. Independents side with Democrats, 62% to 34%."

But don’t expect the Reaganlators to acknowledge that. Their whole sense of identity is bound up with their faith.

Got that right for sure!

Your first Krugman piece I don't - for the most part - disagree with.

But this piece is just bizarre. Again Krugman seems to be rewriting history. To suggest that things were good under Carter is just ridiculous. Reagan, much like Obama, was handed a basket case. What Reagan did do - again much like Obama - was to take the basket case he was handed and brought the economy back to health.

Inflation was at 13.5% in 1980 - and going up as the economy was handed over to Reagan. Krugman is playing with facts here and not even attempting to be honest with the facts. Krugman is right that there are those who unjustly glorify Reagan - but it is equally as dishonest to portray everything he did as bad.

Well, Reagan's all they have. What other president can they hold up as a paragon of Republicanism? Which should tell you why you never want another Republican president.

I see Ike as the last decent Republican president, but he's never mentioned by any Republican.
