I agree inflation needed to be tamed. I was amazed at how high it got before it was brought down. Goes to show that the absolute level of inflation may not be as important as the rate of change.

It was not inflation in itself that was so bad - it was the very rapid rate of the increase. If not brought under control, the economy was in danger of imploding- think of the history of Germany or Argentina. Where would you like to draw the line and say the rate of inflation is too high and now we need to reign it in?
Was, but it didn't. Pure fear mongering. And there was no way it was going to implode. Why? Because we had regulations that prevented it back then. Most of those have been stripped off.
