It is an unnecessary convenience, therefore a luxury. And if done it would be tremendously expensive.

I much prefer rail transportation because it is a Cadillac compared with airlines. But it just doesn't make financial sense for the United States. You characterize it as though we are "behind" the Europeans and Japanese, which isn't accurate. The fact is that rail is right for them and wrong for us.

But the article below does explain why our government should not be involved in it. If private enterprise wants to do it, fine. But we've already wasted billions and will waste billions more before it can be stopped.
