In the world there are two HSR lines that make money. In the entire world. One in Europe, one in Japan.

Aside from these all are subsidized and they all lose money, and many lose a TON of money.

I have no objection to subsidizing HSR reasonably as we do other forms of transportation. But when you're talking what would ultimately become hundreds of billions for SFO-LA, you are misallocating resources because there is a very huge country out there that needs it and can use it more productively.
