TOKYO (Nikkei)--Victor Co. of Japan Ltd. has developed a technology for editing compressed digital image data matching MPEG standards without first converting them into images as in the conventional method. The new format prevents image deterioration during the editing process and raises efficiency, JVC officials said.

A personal computer, decoder and monitor are necessary to utilize the system, which conforms to both MPEG1 standard for video compact discs and MPEG2 for digital video discs. JVC expects it will be widely used for both commercial and individual purposes, such as editing background videos for the karaoke industry and image data obtained via the Internet on a PC.
