So the High School Graduate has a job, and has probably had the job for 4 years. The "uneducated person working as a Teller, already has a four year head start on building savings for retirement The College graduate... Well, she won't take a job as a Teller, because it is perhaps "beneath her and her Degree in Communications from Cal State Fullerton...." So instead.. She sleeps in until 9AM and spends her day watching TV, while the High School Graduate who works as a Teller is out in the world Networking with others that may lead to other opportunities. "Unemployment, for Whitecotton and many of her peers, comes with other consequences. Graduates since 2009 have earned an average starting salary of $27,000, down from $30,000 for the classes of 2006 and 2007. That's because employers can pay less with a surplus of job-seekers. In addition, many recent graduates take jobs below their skill level. The study found that 43 percent of employed recent graduates said their jobs do not require a college degree." <SNIP< < Nowadays, Whitecotton said she sleeps until 9 a.m. "because I have nothing to wake up for." She applies to five to six jobs per day and spends the rest of her time watching TV and reading -- all while wearing makeup, just in case an employer calls for an in-person interview.< She could make some real money if she learned a trade, but too good for that.. After all, They have a College Degree. Easier to wake up at 9 and watch TV, and wait for the $40 an hour job they are entitled to due to their College Education.
