Compete bullshit - there's always new jobs coming - someone's going to a have to repair all those robots.

The big problem we're facing is that government is speeding the process up by creating burdens for employers. Thus, the huge number of people who are affected have insufficient time to prepare for it.

The solution isn't more government; it is to get people educated to do jobs that automation cannot handle [yet]. That takes time.

More importantly, the current university system has to be replaced by online academics which are more affordable. All this takes time, and the federal government is totally headed down the opposite track.

Which is not to say that human level intelligence is right around the corner. It isn't. But reliable pattern recognition and the ability to learn can do an awful lot.

We can do that now.

Yes, they wouldn't be as general purpose as a human. But that doesn't matter if they are cheap enough.
