Alex Brown cut semi equips. Soundview downgrades AMAT. CNBC are
laughing that they are downgrading after the stock were cut in
half.

Regarding financing for equipment purchases being difficult in Korea, has anyone ever heard of a Semi equipment company carrying loans for a customer? I heard someone in the industry say (for example) that AMAT had 1.5B$ cash. What does it take to be a banker? Who better than those cash rich semi equipment companies? Comments please on above and relative to Cymer
Thanks
TI2

Mason, Your points are well taken, especially regarding the financing for Korean fabs. A good indicator to watch will be the decision, to be made shortly, by Hyundai regarding the completion of phase II for their fab in Scotland. Initial physical construction of the fab is almost complete. Now they must decide whether to order the chip making tools. This plant was budgeted at $3 billion, with almost a billion already spent. It's supposed to be a 64 Mb DRAM fab.

What would you do?? Push forward or walk away from a billion dollar investment? Interesting.
