"public tragedies" I think Robin William's suicide was a tragedy. He had people in his life who loved him and they're going to mourn him. He was only 63 and he had many years of life left to live. But from a materialist perspective, where is the tragedy? He wanted to die and so he ended his life. We hear a lot about "Death with Dignity" and assisted suicide by medical personnel as a right. In those places where this right has been affirmed (Belgium, Holland, Oregon), depression is accepted as a valid reason for ending one's life. I wonder why pro-death with dignity people aren't coming out to tell us Robin William's suicide should be celebrated.
