The interoperability would not be at the satellite level, but at the gateway level. There it is a simple software upgrade. Globalstar does not use satellite-to-satellite links like Iridium. The gateways are the key. The two systems do not need each other to operate. What you said about any GEO in space must have all its transponders hired/sold is simply not true. Also, Loral will be launching Orion3, Telstar 6 & 7, and Morelos III in 1998, plus look for another acquisition soon that will add at least two more GEOs.
