I had serious depression in the 80s, which went on for a time before the drug Prozac showed up. And it was a miracle drug. But I would stop taking it and there you go. Eventually, I got past it, without any kind of professional assistance. But I know people today who are suffering badly from depression and can't get the care they need because sometimes counseling isn't enough and it is almost impossible to find psychiatrists who are really involved beyond trying a series of guesses at which drug might work.

A lot of it brain chemistry, but they still don't have a clue how to fix those problems. It is like throwing darts at a dartboard. Hit or miss.
