That's an interesting hypothesis.

I can see the rebels and even the Russians involved in something like that, but the U.S. would probably know (as they did) that the missile involved came from a BUK system and they'd know (which they did) exactly where it came from.

Another thing, wouldn't a commercial jet flying out of Moscow be coming from the opposite direction?

Anyway, if that hypothesis is actually true then the Rebels AND the Russians are pretty lousy at accomplishing anything....which is good I think....
