I think Chicago problems are bigger than anyone one man.

Probably - which is why the old expression - if you keep doing the same thing over and over why do expect a different result. It would be refreshing to see some economic ideas like lowering taxes, vouchers for schools and other ways for people to get out of the cycle of violence and employers to move in and offer jobs.

A plurality of political leadership would help - this one side only representation I believe is part of the problem. When one side controls the levers of government for so long it encourages corruption (Chicago is legendary) and nothing ever changes as there is no honest debate of ideas or solutions. Just recall the attempts to sell Obama's seat by Governor Blagojevich.

>I haven't followed it closely. What I do know is he's closed some schools which always pisses off parents.

He's been a huge supporter of charter schools while leaving the public schools out to dry. He and his compadre, Penny Pritzker, heiress to the Hyatt hotel chain and Obama national campaign treasurer, have basically said the public schools don't need things like arts and libraries while they send their kids to private schools that have an abundance of those things. They're also rabidly anti-teachers union, which is why the head of the teachers union is running against Rahm in the primary.
