Not sure of what you write one thing is for certain Israel NG fields are developed with Noble Energy a US company nobleenergyinc.com and also a Australian firm I forgot the name.

Yes Gazprom wanted into the game but I do not know what happen and that was a years ago.

My gut feeling is fears or retribution by Russia via a proxy war like in Ukraine, by Syria Hezbollah and Iran who already receives a lot of very modern armament from Russia.

Definitely not a close friend IMHO the relationship is more out of security necessity

Israel from what I read, does import crude oil from Azerbaijan and Kurdistan and yes they buy also coal from Russia but also Indonesia and Australia etc,. but I do not think Russia is a major supplier of crude oil.
