yes the idealization of hard work and team work not the modernization and mechanized agriculture or for that matter almost everything else.

This mentality is pervasive and stands in many instances to this day and that is the reason that after a commodity boom Russian economy is stagnating and entering recession.

To keep the present junta in power the classic steps where taken that where proven trough history of being effective - invade another country, play the nationalistic card and that is the sad par of what is happening now in Ukraine.

A war that was started due to the failure of the leadership to shore up its own economy.

From my personal experience in dealing with Russian officials and well to do business people for several years the Russians can blame only themselves but on the other hand one must also take into account that 2 generation of Russian where oppressed by the Stalinist regime and all those that had ingenuity and entrepreneurship spirit where simply decimated if in prisons or forced working camps or simply executed.

The effect of this policy is evident across Russia and one of the biggest mistakes the Western Nations made during Yeltsin time was to ignore this fact, and by this enabling the rise of the Oligarchs that the best of them are borderline Robber Barons as it was in the US over 120 years ago with the Rockefeller's or J. P Morgan's as an example.
