The difference between DFW/Houston and these other places is that it COULD be done profitably. The others you mentioned, not so much.

NY to DC, yes, if they could existing ROW. We know SFO-LA is not feasible from a financial point of view. I don't think any of the Chicago routes you mentioned could be done profitably or the other DC routes.


If SFO/LA is not profitable, its because they are running it down the San Joaquin Valley.

Traffic on the Chicago/St Louis route is growing very quickly. A route between Chicago and MPLS would pick up Madison and MIlwaukee....a natural. A route from Chicago to Detroit would also work. I'll agree that Chicago/Cleveland may be problematical. Tampa-Orlando-Miami....another natural. NY/Boston.....ditto. Vancouver-Seattle-Portland.......ditto.

If you live in an area that saw how quickly train ridership is growing, you might think otherwise.
