The problem is they are spending more than their income, so the numbers are on a percent bases flawed relative to the income. One also has to be careful about income because if they consider the social security tax income it is in reality a liability on the future.

The treasury says the interest paid on the debt in 2013 was 415.688 billion. I wonder where the number 221 came from?
