Z,
But even the peaceful protesters and the media are seen as the enemy by the police. Why the hell else do you show up into a city in camp?
I don't know how the authorities are trained to tell the difference. I imagine in a situation where the police are trying to control the chaos, few have the luxury to avoid "friendly fire."

As for sympathy for the protesters, I have less now than I did during the L.A. riots of 1992. At least they had a legitimate grievance against the police department. (They didn't against Korean store owners, but hey, who gives a s--t about them?)

As for the protesters in Ferguson, I believe they're being riled up by outside forces, especially those with the memory of Trayvon Martin fresh in their minds. And in those two cases, it's not clear to me that the black victims were as worthy of as much sympathy as Rodney King was.
