The biggest reason it's happening here is because Bloomberg gave huge tax breaks to developers to build upscale housing in the neighborhood.

No, the biggest reason is because of supply and demand.

This is the one theme that I see liberals constantly denying because they don't want to face the truth. It's THEIR demand. It's THEIR regulations that limits supply.

This is not the work of some evil conspirators (though there are plenty trying to work the system, e.g. developers), and not the work of those oh-so-greedy Republicans.

I have a lot of conversations with my wife over the white-hot real estate market in the Bay Area. We both wonder whether we got in at the top. I reassure her that as long as local politicians remain in denial about the shortage of supply, we haven't seen the real top yet.
