>> PINE BLUFF, Arkansas—No sign announces the purpose of this little storefront, squeezed between a Bestway Rent to Own and a Rent-a-Center in a dilapidated shopping center. But the words hand-lettered in black and red marker on three pieces of paper taped to the window—"Register to Vote Here"—and a cluster of placards for candidates give it away: It is a Democratic Party field office.

Funny how they grabbed this shot of 1st Street/Barraque in Pine Bluff, the most destitute location in the most destitute city in the state (with almost 80% poor, black residents). I just have to wonder why they didn't choose one of the 28 other offices for the photo.

But be that as it may. They do want to salvage Pryor's seat because he is a reliable Senate vote; never showing any independence, poor performer all-the-way-around. I voted for him and it was one of the worst votes I ever made. Everyone I know of seems to feel the same way.

Sure, Pryor will get Jefferson County and those precincts in Pulaski where the po' folk live. And they're going to dump a lot of money into advertising to try and salvage it. I think the Ds have their work cut out for them.
