For those not familiar, Qwest was a hot IPO this past summer. They
have a market cap of about $6b and do have deep pockets. They are in
the midst of installing about 16,000 miles of fiber optic cable from
coast to coast. About 3-4,000 miles are currently lit. While they
are leasing out about 75% of their capacity, they hope to use the 25%
remaining for proprietary uses, apparently such as IP. Their CEO is
Nacchio (sp?) who was in line for the top spot at AT&T but was
looking for a more exciting start-up. The majority stockholder in
Qwest is Phil Anschutz who made billions in the railroad industry,
and is looking to make billions more in telecommm (he kept the right
of way on the RR beds he sold and is laying the optic cable in them).

Anyhow, this is all FYI, and with any luck FTEL will experience a
similar market cap, without the huge capital investment !
