Accelerated competition. $40 gets you broadband access with no need for a second line. Think TWX can offer as much content as AOL?

Disclaimer: I am long in a big way on UMG, have been for quite a while. That's why I like AOL as a hedge.

Barry; shorting aginst the box is what a lot of them do, I understand
that it can't be used to defer taxes any more, but it's still OK
to lock in profits. For big funds it may have other advantanges,
such as keeping their margin accout open or up..I'm not sure
they may get other discounts too. Big funds actully get interest
on shares the lend out to brokers..and I think they can short
aginst the box at the same time they have stock lent out..as they
are still covered. Like I said earlyer..shorting for the indivudual
is a saps game as they have all the aces..and connections to the
brokerage houses and know were the stop losses are, they are always
short at the top of the heap..if they short aginst the box..and see
the price tick up they can cover at a what would look like a loss,
in so doing it kicks up the price till the stop losses kick in then
they short again..to the saps caught in the trap..each time they
short it's for more than they paid..momentum buying but with out
actully taking on more stock..90 to 95% of aol volume is not going
any where but from one short to another..it's been that way all
along..individual shorters play right into it..I may but some
puts in a bit, gota go. But I won't short her knowing they can
look up my rectom if I put out a stop loss..no way..and I won't use
Dec puts..maybe jan but more like march.
To top that all off..if you short and she drops bad, you get bought
in before she hits bottom..as they call back in the lent out stock..
they are the only ones who can ride her down for any real big
gains..I said long ago not to short this sucker..use puts or
get burned. At least puts in their own way have a built in
stop.
