The concept that continued economic growth is desirable is a myth perpetrated by the 1% who reap the bulk of the gains from it. What is need is negative growth and a declining world population. As long the the reduction in growth is at a rate slower than the decline in population overall prosperity will increase, assuming the equitable distribution of rewards problem can be solved.

Of course, no politician can be elected on such a platform.
