We have not been using social science to address our problems. The Republicans don't even know what that is.

Societies that have used modern social science are doing the best. Which is exactly what one would expect.

I saw the difference modern social science programs made in a society as I live in a small pond. The emergency medical services system we instituted in Alaska has saved thousands of lives over the years and it was just a simple idea and not that expensive.

E.g. free pre school with meals would make such a difference in the healthy development of children and our society.as to be breathtaking according to the science, yet that program has been stiffeled for 50 years (Nixon vetoed it) because the right wing does not want their children taught the earth is 5 billion years old. It conflivts with the bible saying it is 6,000 years old.

I have read research that said for every dollar spent on Head start society gets back $30 to $60 dollars in reduced crime and increased productivity. I believe that.

And we have know my entire life children learn languages 10 times better than older children (they have 50% more neurons at that age). So why are we still teaching languages in middle school instead of pre school and at least Kindergarten?

But the two things about education that stand out to me is:

1) We are all so undereducated that the difference between innate abilities is all but meaningless. We can all be so much smarter with more education, but most people do not seem interested and most do not even begin to understand their natural ability.

2) It takes much longer and much more study to develop the "expert mind" than is generally recognized by people. This concept was highlighted by Scientific American and Mind magazine in their special on the "Expert Mind:.

Both of my kids entered college as honor students, and both tell me they learned so much more in college it constituted a paradigm shift in their thinking. And then again with graduate school. I had the same experience.

Let us educate everyone to a higher level first and then see what we have.

JMO.
