If you read the Pew poll, you'll find a generational difference of opinion on what's most to blame for the problem behaviors of young blacks. Only 35% of young blacks themselves hold to your argument. They hold black culture in general to blame. They believe blacks have to do more to help themselves and have to quit making excuses.>> koan: What you are presenting is anecdotal evidence. A PEW poll shows nothing except opinion. What is germane is the science, not someone's opinion. <<Maybe old-timers like you and Alex are in fact enablers. The Michael Brown funeral was so discouraging to me----a parade of "enablers" who managed to turn a young thug into a cultural hero. The White House even sent 3 representatives. To do what? "Honor" someone who could never be called a role model?>> koan: I may be old, but I am also a social scientist of sorts. I have the education and the experience and I am speaking as a social scientist. <<No matter how you measure it, the statistics of blacks as a group are terrible when measured against their numbers, i.e. 15% of all Americans. I put a huge amount of blame on AA women. For 25 years, I've sat on mall benches while my family shopped and watched AA women jerk their kids around, call them fools, threaten them, yell, spank, and even slap small toddlers across the face. In short, terrorize their small children rather than drop down to their eye level and try to reason with them. I think of their young brains just constantly being flooded with stress hormones and then read studies claiming the average black infant is developmentally falling behind by the age of six months and thinking 'no surprise there'.>> African American's spent 200 years in salvery, then another 100 in chain gangs and inferior schools and endured horrible racism all during that time. What you are seeing is a lack of education. Because they never had a chance. Today, African American women are going to college 2 to 1 over African American men.
