It's funny how small the world can become at times. That ArkLa deal is also something from your article that I remember well. At the time I was working in a Merrill Lynch office right across the street from the ArkLa headquarters. It was the old Arkansas-Louisiana gas company, a publicly traded company. Sheffield Nelson, who I mentioned as being so handsome, had been president of Arkla but was then considering a run for governor against Clinton. A month or so before the FBI investigation of Arkla made the news, he had bought lunch for our office and broached the possibilities of hosting a get-together with wealthy NW Arkansas Merrill clients. He was also a real charmer....very charismatic....but the scandal of Arkla's double-dealing ruined his political career.

If you remember Mac McClarty, Clinton's chief fundraiser who followed Clinton to Washington (can't remember his position), the Arkla lawsuits tarnished him, too.

Arkansas is such a small state, thus it has always surprised me how many hugely successful people have been spawned by our mediocre school systems. Jerry Jones is one who has brought great pride to the people of this state, and I hope he knows it.
