TJ, what's the brown muck that the sun is blocked by? It looks like the same muck I saw in Beijing behind which the sun disappeared about 20 degrees above the horizon. Skin cancer rates must be low in Hong Kong.

It's not quite picture perfect.

Regarding caesium, that reminds me of strontium 90 of my childhood when the atomic bomb tests over the Pacific ocean and in Oz were dusting the hemisphere with radioactive nuclides.

Teevee is planning on having them delivered directly to Washington. It's possible they have already been delivered and are awaiting detonation in a heavily lead-lined bunker somewhere handy to the Capitol, White House and Pentagon. Such are the surprises dogs of war get when they unleash themselves.

Having just completed their retreat from Iraq with thousands of US soldiers/contractors maimed and dead and $trillions down the drain, one would think they'd be more circumspect. Taking on Putin and his vast array of megatonnage, complete with rocketry galore, decades of planning and centuries of history to reflect on 1812 Overture, Barbarossa and a charge of the light brigade into Crimea no less, is a different kettle of fish than offing Uday and Saddam in a cake walk.

But the USA couldn't even manage a cake walk. And have now been defeated, with ISIS or whatever it is rampaging freely across Iraq, gloating in Cyberspace with videos of head-hacked Americans. The USA has also been defeated in Afghanistan just as USSR was and the British Empire a couple of centuries ago. But they think they can blithely do a surgical first strike on Putin and his generals. Laughable if not so mindlessly cataclysmic, calamitous and catastrophic.

Words are exponential, parabolic and asymptotic going from a genteel early exponential unfortunate, to unpleasant, nasty, upward parabolically to disastrous, catastrophic, calamitous and ending asymptotically at cataclysmic with words ceasing to be useful in describing the outcome. Teevee's "surgical strike" on Putin would rapidly exponentiate parabolically towards asymptotic action. The land of chess doesn't see Obama move a pawn early in the game and then immediately say "Oh, looks like you got me there." and lay their king down. Can Obama even play chess? I guess not. Even if he knows the rules, he assuredly is not going to be able to develop any strategy of consequence. He has not even got a strategy for handling ISIS despite over a decade of USA war in Iraq and the obvious outcome of an Islamic insurrection, if not a Saddamic style strong man.

What words come after asymptotic to describe calamitously cataclysmic?

Having seen what some kilotons did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one would think the denizens of Washington would not want tens of megatons being used on Washington, but apparently that's not the case if we take Teevee at his "surgical strike" word and the many like-minded even here in SI.

BTW, that's a very nice view from your neighbor's deck. ;)

Is it sunrise, or sunset?
