Anti American makes Ivan (these days: Vladi) look better, right????? Yes, I know this sounds crazy, but it is so true. I didn't know that.......I have never felt the latent anti American sentiment with my friends but I have been surprised at their passivity when it comes to Putin and all things Russian. When I would joke about the Russian dash cams, they would respond by saying Americans drive badly too. It seemed stupid but I never really pursued it with them. Looking for the background for this, comparing Japan with Germany long ago came to my mind, since both of them were seriously beaten by the US in WW II. Now here the fact of interest comes in, that I have never detected any anti US sentiment like that in Japan anywhere! Does not exist!!! I have my own theory about how come, but that will be subject for another discussion. The Japanese don't have and never di have any illusions about the true character of the Soviet or Russia nation and their plans. But then again, the Soviet occupation of the North Territories, which took place AFTER the Japanese capitulation, truly left some serious tracks not to be easily forgotten. I think the Japanese are very enamored with American culture..........almost to an obsession.....esp among the young. Its not news that American blonds and fake American blonds do really well in getting Japanese commercial work. And their retreat from the Imperial Japan that attacked Pearl Harbor has been pretty dramatic and complete. Finally, as you point out, with Russia, they know all too well how duplicitous Russia can be. The worst part of this mess is that Merkel is expected to lead the charge against Russia.......with one hand tied behind her back. Not good.
