So what's UP with UTEK, it seems to be diverging from the group on the upside, percentage wise? Any rumors out there?

Re: More OFF TOPIC (wash sale)
You can also use options to accomplish much of the same intent. Options are differentiated from stocks. Different strike and expiry are different entities.

To quote again from Lasser, at more length: "Under the wash-sale rule, your loss deduction is barred if within 30 days of the sale you buy substantially identical stock or securities, or a 'put' or 'call' option on such securities."

Note that it explicitly prohibits options on the stock. Your tax milage may vary.
