Gold mines for consumers in the know right now.

It's probably unfair to others who have pioneered this space, but Apple's interpretation will likely be far and away more successful than all those combined in its first year of service, even if it's ultimately a flop.

But like with many things, Apple will show others how to succeed, if only by convincing consumers to use and trust it.

Just so we know, would you say the Amazon Fire is a flop? Certainly growing sales compared to say, 3 months ago. :)

With regards to mobile payments, growth is great, but scale matters. If active ISIS users number less than 1 million, it's hard to call it a success against a backdrop of 160 million US smartphone users. It will be easier for Apple to make it an afterthought if the installed base is so tiny. Moreover, they are probably all Android (except the few with an NFC iPhone sleeve), which means there really isn't any head-to-head competition anyway.

For comparison, Apple is likely to sell over 10 million iPhone 6's opening weekend. It would be a disappointment if there weren't 3 million iWallet users by Sunday (and that's assuming new hardware is needed).
