Yeah, Sicily reminded me of California when I visited. That's why I thought the opportunity was rather interesting. But, yeah, outside Palermo it's wilderness. Smaller towns are probably all half dead unless they are on the coast and get tourists. Road infrastructure seemed OK, but I did not drive a lot, so it might depend on a place inland.

Gagni BTW, seems to be pretty badly positioned. ~2hrs from Palermo by car. Not on major road, so 1 hr to get out onto a major road + whatever time to drive anywhere. That's pretty big drawbacks for buying anything there. You have to love being in the town and not going anywhere... Not to the sea either...

As I said, if I had time, I'd look. But this would need at least couple months which I don't have.
