All institutions are different...there are small cap funds, large cap cap funds, etc. As a general rule, the best funds...even those that call themselves "microcap" funds...will stay away from stocks under $4-$5. Yes, there are exceptions. Also, an "institution" is not necessarily a public mutual fund; there are many private hedge funds and other types of pooled money that will sometimes take positions in very small stocks. None of these are my customers, however.
