I've heard this argument before from other liberals, and I think it's a stupid one.

The terrorists aren't trying to get us to "overreact." The terrorists are trying to achieve victory by driving America out of the Middle East with its tail between its legs.

This "overreaction" strategy never turns out well for anyone, including the terrorists themselves.
