I doubt it. Micropolis was hanging by a thread when Singapore Tech bought them. And for years even before then. If ST hadn't bought them, they would have gone under then.

But what I take to be your general point still holds. Book values for tech companies are not the same as book values were for smoke stack companies. When a lot of tech companies go under, there is usually either nothing at all (since all of the people assets have gone to greener pastures) or a lot of expensive equipment that is good for almost nothing. Obsolete.

Book Value/sh = Stockholder's equity/sh (in a corporation)

Stockholders equity = Assets - Liabilities
