It is nuts. I'll never understand people. As I am not from this planet, I can tell you quite objectively that common core is what you make of it- with you being the teacher, student and parent. The assignments should have great depth, and make students think- using details they know (and have memorized) but taking those details and extending them in to something more. I can understand why the right wing might not like that- they do not, in the main, seem to enjoy "thinking". They enjoy talking about "thinking", but they don't seem to actually do it. What they do do, is get memes from each other, often incorrect memes, always opinion, and then they spin them around like Chinese acrobats, and they convince themselves they are Deep Thinkers. They are idiots. Unfortunately there are some idiots on the left who don't understand the core either. But that's the way the world is, and always has been- lots more idiots than non-idiots.

I have decided to, for the most part, ignore all of it. (and yes, I split an infinitive there- ON PURPOSE) There's nothing I can do about the idiots. I can only make sure my students learn, make sure my parents are happy, and try not to be too rude to morons who have never taught, and never would be able to teach, who think they know it all. And I'm not doing too well with that last one. I may never do well with that one.

"the goal of the Common Core standards isn't to prepare our children for world-class universities—it's to prepare them for community college!"

Why is this bad? Most of our kids don't have world-class university minds; community colleges can prepare them.
