TG,
Isolationism would be difficult if not impossible with world trade. American trade and interests abroad need protection which eventually would lead to "entanglements" unless somehow everyone in the world followed the rules...whatever they might be.
I'm not saying isolationism is the best course of action. We could have a very long discussion on the merits of that policy and how practical it really is in this post-modern world.

What I am saying, however, is that if Obama really wants to go in this direction, he needs to make it clear. It's not enough for his defenders to come out and pretend that Obama is doing just that.

Plus we've seen plenty of examples where Obama wants to be engaged in foreign affairs, at least verbally. The Syrian conflict is a good example. Obama was threatening with bombs and military action before changing his mind. That's not isolationist; that's wishy-washy. Why bother making threats if you're going to chicken out? That just diminishes credibility, and the next time America tries to make a show of force, our enemies will just laugh at us.

Hence the reason why I keep bringing up the isolationism angle is because I believe this is the best course of action the Obama administration can pursue, IF (and only if) they are truly reluctant to engage militarily.

Otherwise, we should go in with clear goals, make every effort to achieve them, and achieve them quickly.

Either hot or cold. Not this lukewarm stuff. Liberals hate that because they prefer their "nuance" bullshit.
