Because she is a well-known figure whose loss you would not so easily dismiss as an "occupational hazard."

She, probably more than anyone else I've seen in journalism these days, risked the most by being on-location with most of her reports. And part of that is, well, because she's a woman.


First of all, Ten, I don't see things the way you see them. I would think that would be pretty clear by this point. Secondly, while I respect Amanpour as a reporter and I am more familiar with her than Foley, I would feel exactly same way that I feel about the Foley execution.............complete and utter disgust. A friend watched the video.......I can't stand to even see the photos of him kneeling.

And yet, every reporter knows the risk of what they are doing. Foley's parents said they had hoped there son would give up reporting from the ME after he had some trouble in Libya and was imprisoned there for a short while. But he didn't...........he went on to Syria.

BTW a woman reporter who takes far more risks than Amanpour:
