Self- Defense Shooting Outside Indianapolis Kroger Guts Argument To Ban Guns

Posted by Bob Owens on September 8, 2014 at 11:50 am

A defensive gun use outside this Indianapolis Kroger Monday morning follows a mob attack at a Memphis Kroger this weekend that left a shopper and two employees unconscious. (image via Google Maps)

Gun control advocate Shannon Watts is attempting use social media and billboards to bully Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery store chain, into banning the lawful carry of firearms by their customers.

Kroger follows all local, state, and federal laws regarding the open and concealed carry of firearms, and doesn’t want Moms Demand (or any other gun control groups) dictating policies to their employees that would have them unnecessarily confronting customers.

That attempt to bully Kroger into submission has become a bit harder over the past 72 hours, as a mob attack on a Kroger shopper and employees in Memphis Saturday night has been followed by a self-defense shooting outside an Indianapolis Kroger this morning during an attempted robbery:

A person was shot and killed in an attempted robbery on the city’s near west side Monday morning.

The shooting happened near the intersection of West Michigan Street and North Holmes Avenue just before 6:20 a.m.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan police, a man says he shot another man who tried to rob him. That man was taken away in handcuffs for questioning, police said.

The person killed in the shooting was found next to an ATM with a handgun. Police doing roll call across the street at West District Headquarters heard gunshots and ran to investigate the source. The shooter put his hands up and surrendered when officers arrived.

New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg is funding Watts and the Moms Demand Action attempt to bully Kroger into disarming the 100 million American gun owners that shop in their stores.

The plot by Moms Demand is part of a Temperance Movement-like crusade to bully private businesses into forcing gun control on their customers when Moms Demand failed to pass the gun control laws they wanted through state legislatures.

With every crime committed outside a retail establishment, their movement continues to lose credibility.

Home Invader With Hammer Loses To Homeowner’s Son With Gun

Posted by Bob Owens on July 31, 2014 at 2:24 pm

Mack Samuel Stokes

An Indiana burglar is lucky to have escaped with his life after attempting to break into a home in Leesburg.

Michael Samuel Stokes allegedly shattered a window in the home, alerting the homeowner, who walked into the room to encounter shattered glass. The homeowner alerted her son, who grabbed his .45 ACP pistol and went outside to confront an approaching Stokes, who had gone to his car to collect a hammer.

Stokes then ran back to the car he was driving, and attempted to run over the armed son in his escape, prompting the son to fire several times in self-defense.

The car used by Stokes in the burglary.

The gun shots shattered the glass of the car, making it quite noticeable to police who were responding to the homeowner’s 911 call. Stokes was apprehended quickly and without incident. It was later determined that he did not have permission to be driving the car.

* * *

It’s a great thing that the homeowner’s son was armed and able to thwart the robbery, but he made a significant tactical error by leaving the concealment (if not cover) of the home to confront Stokes. He then made a much larger error by placing himself in a position where Stokes almost ran him down with the “borrowed” car.

While we understand the desire to “get” the burglar in the commission of a crime, it is not worth it in most circumstances if the attempt to stop the criminal puts you or your loved ones at greater risk of injury… and that is typically what you are doing when you attempt to stop a fleeing felon.

Part of being a responsible gun owner is knowing when to back off. This Leesburg son is very fortunate that Stokes was only armed with a hammer. He’s also fortunate that Stokes did not run him over.

Protect the ones you love, folks, but don’t unnecessarily risk your life to stop a petty criminal involved in a property crime.

“What Did You Do?” 911 Call Records Widow’s Shooting of Incredulous Home Invader

Posted by Bob Owens on September 3, 2014 at 12:12 pm
Democrat Michael Lewis attacked a 47-year-old widow in her home. Luckily, she had a .38 revolver.

This Democratic punk picked the wrong person to victimize.

We’re hearing for the first time the 911 recording of the moments when a west Phoenix woman, huddled in her bathroom, confronted and shot a man charged with breaking into her home. She was on the phone with 911 before, during, and after the shooting till officers arrived.

Investigators say the 47-year-old homeowner did everything right, by calling 911, arming herself and hiding. On the recording, we hear the frightening ordeal play out.

The break-in and shooting happened May 6 near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road. Michael Lewis, 20, was arraigned in June after a month-long stay in the hospital, recovering from the gunshot.

Lewis has already plead guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

Nude, Drunk Home Invader Killed In Struggle Over Shotgun

Posted by Bob Owens on September 8, 2014 at 11:11 am

A Greenville, Michigan homeowner awoke to a drunk nude man in his home and armed himself with a shotgun while yelling at the neighbors to call police.

The naked man then reportedly said that he wasn’t afraid of police and attempted to either grab or swat away the shotgun.

This was not a very wise decision, and had a predictable outcome.

A 27-year-old man who walked naked into a Greenville home, before he was shot and killed after a confrontation with the homeowner, had been drinking in earlier hours.

The man who was shot to death has been identified as John Sherman Russell III of Gowen.

Greenville Public Safety Director Mark Reiss said the homeowner found the naked man sleeping on his couch sometime after 7 a.m.

The homeowner went to get a shotgun, then tried waking Russell.

“The homeowner says the man got quite belligerent and at some point combative, then either grabbed or swatted the barrel of the shotgun,” Reiss said.

“The homeowner then discharged one round into his torso,” he said.

Russell was pronounced dead at the scene, 105 South Barry St.

Authorities are still investigating the scene, and it seems unlikely that the homeowner will face charges. It isn’t clear from the reporting if the shot was intentional or merely reflexive, but either would appear to be legal under both versions of castle doctrine (centuries old common law and also Michigan’s newer statutory implementation).

If you make the decision to click the link and read the full story (which includes eyewitness statements from a neighbor), continue down to the comments, where someone named “summer” is attempting to argue that the homeowner—not the naked, belligerent and apparently drunk home invader—is at fault and should be brought up on charges because he chose to arm himself against a naked stranger in his home.

Police officers are very family with people like “summer.”

They draw chalk outlines around them far more often than they would like.

......
The homeowner was at the residence with his wife and three children.

A neighbor of the homeowner said he witnessed the shooting and believes the homeowner, his friend of many years, was justified in protecting himself.

When the man was discovered on the couch, the homeowner began yelling for his neighbor to call or find the police.

The neighbor, who did not want to give his name, said he ran immediately to the house at 105 Barry St.

"He's telling him to get out of the house, but the guy wasn't quite right," the neighbor said. "He seemed really wasted on alcohol or something else.

The neighbor said the naked man stood up from the couch, said something about not being afraid of police, then took a swipe at the gun. It was then the shot was fired.

"It's just a sad situation. I feel so bad for everyone," the neighbor said.

Reiss said in an investigation showed that Russell had been drinking with several other people at a downtown area Greenville bar, late into the evening.

At 3 a.m., he was at a Northwest Greenville apartment with other people and decided he was going to leave. Reiss said the others tried to make him stay, but could not.

"He did not want to stay and he left," he said.

At 6:54 a.m., 911 dispatchers took a call from a homeowner near Barry and Grove streets that a naked man was looking into her window.

Police responded and began looking around.

But at that point, the shot was fired. A 911 call came from the South Barry Street home at 7:23 a.m.

Reiss said police found the man's shorts, wallet and cell phone next to a garage a few doors away.

It's not clear why he removed his clothes.

A point of speculation, Reiss said, is that he may have become hypothermic in the night air and thought he was too warm.

The homeowner at 105 Grove had left the slider unlocked after he briefly let the family dog out sometime that morning.

When the homeowner came downstairs later, the naked man was sleeping on the couch.

Reiss said the homeowner is not in custody. Police will forward a report to prosecutors, who will determine if the shooting was warranted.

"We need to make sure the statements of the people match up with the evidence," he said.

Indiana: Pizza Delivery Driver Shoots Armed Robber During Hold Up

Posted by Leah Barkoukis on February 26, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Quick thinking and a firearm saved Michael Andrews, an Indianapolis pizza delivery driver.

Two male teenagers confronted Andrews at gunpoint. One of the teens took the pizza while the other, identified as 15-year-old Jacob Robinson, held the firearm and demanded cash and Andrews’ cell phone.

Andrews gave Robinson money but said his phone was in the back of the car. Rather than pulling out the phone, Andrews grabbed his gun and fired several rounds at Robinson, “hitting him at least twice.” Robinson is in critical condition.

The second teen took off running.
