ChinuSFO et al,

If you have not seen the Apple "Perspective" video (on youtube), you should. It would have made Steve proud!

As I am in the Information Security business, I can tell you that the Apple Pay security solution is a big deal (and just for clarification, iCloud Security was not breached. It was the iCloud accounts of some celebrity users who used poor personal security techniques that were breached. Simple, repeating passwords are a easy way to be hacked).

Anyway, the Apple Pay solution does not use iCloud for any part of the service based on the information available to date.

The fact that Amex, MC and Visa all signed up and that 6 of the largest payment processing banks also signed up is virtually unprecedented in an industry where there is little cooperation. Security is driving this and if they did not think the security was beyond what they have today and even better than the expensive switch to chip based cards, than they would not have signed up.
