I expect you know this so it is rhetorical.

I would guess both were due to global warming. Those Pacific hurricanes used to die when they hit the cold water of southern California. But that water is much warmer now and so the hurricanes can make it farther north.

As mentioned, they just caught the first wahoo off California. That is a tropical fish. So just as the hurricanes are moving farther north on the Atlantic coast, so they are moving farther north on the Pacific coast.

The storm wasn't, but the amount of water it contained was.


There's about 6.4% more water in the air than there was 100 years ago, and most of that change has been in our lifetimes. Atmosphere holds 8% more water per degree C. It's been really noticeable worldwide the last 2 or 3 years.
